Paraje de Las Santas

The Chapel of las Santas and its recreation area are at 1,265m above sea level on the western slope of the La Sagra. It looks out over the valley of the Barbata, or Huéscar, River that descends down from the Los Collados and the northface of the giant mountain. On either side we can observe belts of smaller mountain ranges.

This recreation area is sheltered by the dense and ancient tree cover, and it also has all of the facilities necessary for spending a pleasant day in the country. It is also the starting point for many trails and tours that run through the mountains in the area; for example, the hike to the top of La Sagra, and the trail to the Iron Bridge over the Barbata River.

This spot is also extremely important as it is the place along the pilgrimmage from Huéscar and La Puebla de Don Fadrique where the Patron Saints Alodía and Nunilón are presented. This ceremony gives the place its name.
