Morería Caves in Castillejar are one of the most interesting places in Castilléjar, both for their historical value and for their beautiful and unique location. The historical complex is made up of a group of 13 caves excavated on two levels, in the face of a precipice that overlooks the Guardal river. Its similarity to the Hafas above in Benamaurel opens the hypothesis that they were built for defensive purposes in the Almohad period (12th century). The set possibly constitutes the oldest set of Cave Houses in the Huéscar Region and one of the oldest in the Altiplano of Granada.
