Los Letreros de los Mártires

These are the only cave paintings that have been discovered in all of the Granada High Plains.

The site is a rocky cave beside the Barbatas River, probably from the Neolithic Period. Inside it houses schematic-type cave paintings done in dark red, with plain tones, divided into three sections under a star-shaped form. However, due to its deterioration over time, today we can only make out figures in the shape of combs in the central portion; these are interpreted to be animals, perhaps bovids.

These were the first paintings of their kind to be discovered in the Granada Province, found by Abate Breuil in 1915.

It was declared Heritage of Cultural Interest in 1985 and the paintings are today protected by a barrier.
