Cuevas del Campo

There is a small pine forest on the slopes by the Guadiana Menor and Guadalentín Rivers which was planted in order to halt the progressive erosion of the soft soils along the rivers due to water currents. This forest is therefore relatively young; it has not developed very quickly either as a result of the predominantly unfertile clayey soils that cover the area.This dry area is in part being modified by the recent planting of this kind of forest, which proves particularly important on the slopes near the Guadalentín River, and especially in the area known as “Hoya de los Corzos.” Also found at this location is a low compact mountain that is more in scenic harmony with the nearby areas of Sierra del Pozo and Cazorla than with where it actually is.

The recreation area is located on an elevated position above the end of the Coronica Ravine where it opens into the Guadalentín Valley. Visitors can make use of the picnic tables, barbecues and drinking water available. It is only 100 metres from the river, on the opposite side of a poplar grove. Just beside the area is a forest trail that runs along the valley from top to bottom in the direction of the town of Cuevas del Campo. This trail makes its way through land abundant in black poplars and riverside vegetation.
