Castilléjar

Castilléjar goes back to since time immemorial. It was founded at a strategic point on the trade route that connected the eastern coasts of Almería and Murcia with the lands of the Guadalquivir Valley.
Its location between the Barbatas and Guardal Rivers has strongly influenced its evolution over the course of history, not to mention its name - Castilléjar (‘castillo’ means ‘castle’ in English). It was always necessary that this be a fortified location as it was set along such an important trade route.
